Hi All

With around 2 years in the Recrutiment industry as a consultant, I have always had a strong feeling that the Corporate HR somehow look down upon the consultants.

They look at consultants as low brows, mindless & un intelligent creatures who they can play around with and take advantage of.

But corporate HR's forget that sourcing a right candidate for the right job is done by consultants .

Quality and good profiles is give by consultants only .

Some of them have a hard time hiding how much they despise the consultants!!

Any ideas as to why they so much dislike the Consultants?

Perhaps some from the corporate can look inside and come out with some truthful answers...please!

I wonder how many of the corporate HR professionals keep in mind the "Human" factor while dealing with consultants and respect dignity of labour.

Perhaps it is time we have HR profesional taking a Hippcaratic oath a'la Doctors...Any opinions?

Dear Faria,

While I do not disagree with you, I cannot completely subscribe to your opinion. You might have come across certain bad experiences though.

There could be many reasons why Corp HR behaves like the way you highlighted. Following is my understanding.

1. Brand value of their employers Vs Recruitment firm. Hence, they take you for granted.

2. They are giving you business.

3. There a 1000000s of recruitment agencies who do provide the service like you.

4. Poor quality of service. Many recruitment agencies are poor in sourcing through headhunting and other alternative methods. They HIGHLY rely on job portals and access to such database is anyway available with Corp HR.

5. Lack of proper client / relationship management from recruitment firm. I am not referring to pampering your customer here.

6. Lacking the understanding of Job description / nature of requirement and depending on pushing volumes of profiles hoping to arrive at some result.

There are many reasons for which Corp HR might be arrogant in their behavior but i strongly feel this can be changed and should be changed by recruitment community itself, by providing value service

If you what you sell is no different from what your competition does, you cannot survive, respect for your work is anyway lost.

I myself have been into recruitment for the last 5 years and have high regards for this profession.

Regards
Ravikanth

Hi Faria,
Ravikanth has hit the nail on the head! There could be many reasons why a certain Corp HR behaves the way he does but that does not mean that he will behave in the sameway with every recruiter or every Corp HR does not necessary behaves in the way that you describe.
One thing is for sure, the industry has many good recruiters but at the same time we also have some cowboy recruiters too. I've had the experience of working in both side of the fence and believe me the number of calls that I get in a day from recruiters soliciting business is not even funny. I do try my best to be as reasonable with every cold call as I can but sometime I might even brush aside some calls. After all am just a human too and I do have my moods or perhaps the call was at a wrong time.
But as someone who is just starting out on your career, these are your learning years and such experience will make you a smarter and more persuasive recruiter in the end and one day you will look back and you will say indeed I've come a long way! Thats what I can share you from my experience as I've gone through the life cycles many times over.
Best wishes to you and remember recruiting is a profession and you can make it fun or unnecessary stress yourself, its all in the preparation and practice.

Kind regards,
