Job Description for Mainframe CICS Admin



TASK

EOD Review Review EOD statistics to spot trends that may require addressing.

SIT amendments Make amendments to SIT parameters with an explanation of why the amendment is necessary in terms that the client can understand. The client is likely to want to know what the impact of the change will be both positive and negative.

CSD Objects Create and amend new and existing CSD objects with most appropriate values for parameters depending on the workload in the CICS region.

Connections Create and amend new and existing connections to other systems (Unix processors) or software(DB2, IDMS, CICS).

URM Create and amend User Replaceable Modules. This also covers GLUE's and TRUE's. There are a number of Capgemini IPR programs written mainly in assembler that are used across clients. Capgemini has also inherited responsibility maintenance of certain client written exits.

Application Support Dealing with queries from applications ranging from how CICS works to advising on attributes for assembling/compiling programs

Performance Tuning Advising clients on performance improvements generally in the area of reducing transaction times but not always.

System Dump Diagnosis Using IPCS to diagnose CICS SVC dumps for problem resolution.

Application Dump Diagnosis Using IPCS and CICS utilities to diagnose CICS transaction dumps for problem resolution.



User fault diagnosis Diagnosing problems reported by users. This can often be because they misunderstand how to use products within their CICS system

Product support Applying and implementing PTF's to the CICS system using SMPE and subsequent testing and roll out to client systems.

ISV Product support

Installing, tailoring ISV products to function within the CICS region.

Explaining new functions to clients so that they have the option of using them.
