Mumbai, Dec. 26 People Group, owners of the matrimonial portal Shaadi.com and mobile content company Mauj, is learned to have handed pink slips to over 80 employees from various businesses.
The group has three businesses - People Interactive, which owns Shaadi.com, real estate portal Makaan.com and social networking site fropper.com; People Infocom, which owns Mauj, and People Entertainment, a media production company.
According to reliable sources, most of the employees laid off were part of the different sales and marketing teams. Mobile content firm Mauj has decided to outsource the game development function thereby making services of at least 16 persons in the company redundant, said sources.
A spokesperson for the People Group told Business Line by email that the recent realignment of resources and people is in keeping with the firm’s shift in focus towards improved return on investment.
“Though we have had some cases of separation with employees within the company, we have tried to minimise the impact and tried our best to retain or realign employees within the system. After inspecting each option in detail, we reached the difficult decision of parting with some of them.” “We are not in a position to comment on numbers and anything being quoted would be speculative,” the spokesperson added.
People Group is trying to find alternative opportunities for these ex-employees. “We are working with senior management networks to place those that we couldn’t absorb. In addition, we have appointed for them trusted placement consultants who are working on finding the right opportunities,” the spokesperson said.
