Indian Bank to decide on new recruitments soon

Indian Bank expects to take a decision on fresh recruitments and the number of vacancies in about a week to 10 days’ time.

Addressing the 37th Indian Bank Employees Union Conference, Mr M.S. Sundara Rajan, Chairman and Managing Director, Indian Bank, said “We do a total business of Rs 1.12 lakh crore and have adequate employees and can manage with the current 20,400.”

To a query by the All India Bank Employees Association that other public sector banks were doing large recruitments while Indian Bank had not done enough on that front, Mr Sundara Rajan said that while some banks claimed to recruit over 1,000 employees at the ground level only a few hundreds were recruited.

On the contrary, Indian Bank always does what it says, he said. “With the bank planning to open branches in Madhya Pradesh and elsewhere, we expect to go for fresh recruitments,” he said. It is the board of directors which has to take the decision on recruitment, he added.

To the recommendations of the AIBEA for promoting sub-staff to clerical cadre, which has been pending for three years, on the pretext of training programme, Mr Sundara Rajan, said the introduction of core banking solutions has seen jobs such as maintaining the ledger, done by sub-staff, becoming redundant. To promote the sub-staff to clerical cadre requires adequate training in computers, which the bank will effectively consider, he said.
