(IANS) Kerala-based software major IBS Software Services, which was recently criticised by the government for terminating employees, Monday said it had done nothing wrong.Earlier there were reports that IBS had terminated a large number of employees on record of poor performance, following which the government said it would send a team of labour officials to the company for inspection.

Soon after the officials visited the IT firm’s office here Monday and said there were violations, IBS chief V.K. Mathews said the company had laid off only 27 employees and there was nothing wrong in it as it was part of routine practice.

He added that it was the first time in its 11 years of existence, IBS has been in the news for wrong reasons.

Earlier, Deputy Labour Commissioner Balachandran Nair visted the IBS office and said: “We have found certain irregularities and this would be reported to the government.”

Justifying the company’s decision to lay off employees, Mathews said: “This is a routine activity followed by most professional organisations to ensure that the company has the right people with the right skills.”

“IBS has grown at a fast phase and recruited (over 1,000 in the past 18 months) and it is quite possible that some of them will not scale up to fit the job,” he added.

IBS has 2,200 employees on its rolls.
