Just over a third of employers remain unaffected by hiring freezes, according to Hudson`s latest employment expectations report.

After surveying 160 hiring managers within human resources, Hudson found that 65.2 per cent will not be hiring "until further notice". Some 48.1 per cent have no plans to replace staff as they leave.

Just 14.1 per cent of HR managers plan to increase employee numbers, the survey found, compared to 43.7 per cent at this time last year.

According to the managers surveyed, their biggest concern is how to maintain engagement, morale and focus among existing employees.

Some 46.2 per cent say they have increased their emphasis on staff training and development, and 55.7 per cent are focused on lifting productivity.
